Gorden will serve as volunteer assistant for the Pioneers

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team added Glenn Gorden as volunteer assistant coach, it was announced by head coach Jamie Munro. Gorden will work primarily with the defense and the face-off men, while contributing to the efforts in alumni and community relations.

“We are excited to have Glenn Gorden back in Crimson and Gold,” Munro said. “Glenn did a great job at Brown last year and he will bring us the kind of winning attitude that every program needs. Glenn was a member of my first recruiting class and it’s special to have him join the staff.”

Prior to joining the DU coaching staff, Gorden served as an assistant coach for Brown University under coaches Lars Tiffany, Jon Thompson and Earol Wilson. While with the Bears, he helped coach the team to an Ivy League title in 2008.

During his three seasons (2000, 2001 & 2003) with the Pioneers, Gorden played as a defenseman in 23 games and grabbed 11 ground balls. As a Pioneer student-athlete, he assumed a mentoring and leadership role with his fellow teammates, participated in team volunteer events and coordinated efforts to raise money for the program.

At the conclusion of his final season under coach Munro, Gorden graduated from Denver with a degree in real estate construction management.

Gorden hails from Yarmouth, Maine where he played at Bridgton Academy. While at the Academy, he helped the 1999 soccer team win a State title and was named as Prep Lacrosse All-American.

A native of Yarmouth, Maine, Gorden who attended Yarmouth High School and Deerfield Academy, where he helped the 1999 soccer team win a State Title and was named a Prep Lacrosse All-American. He has worked at various lacrosse camps, including the Running Black Bear lacrosse Camp in Yarmouth, Maine, and the Run & Shoot lacrosse Camp at the University of Denver and Roger Williams University.

USAFA, Colo. - Air Force lacrosse coach Fred Acee announced his retirement today, effective at the end of the 2009 season, according to an announcement from Deputy Athletic Director and Head of Physical Education at the Academy, Col. Billy Walker. Acee will remain in the program this season in an administrative role. Current assistant coach Eric Seremet has been named interim head coach for this season.

Acee, who has been coaching collegiate lacrosse for more than 40 years and holds a career record of 350-223-1, spent 11 seasons at the helm of the Air Force program. Among the highlights during his tenure with the Falcons are an upset victory over ninth-ranked conference foe Notre Dame in 2006 and a historic win against defending national champion Virginia to open the 2004 season. The victory over the Cavaliers marked the first time the Falcons had knocked off a top-ranked team.
“Coach Acee has transformed the Air Force lacrosse program in his 11 years at the Academy,” Walker said. “He has strengthened our schedule every year, been a leader in the sport nationally, was influential in the development of two different conferences and has been a superb role model and mentor to our cadets. This is something Fred felt was in the best interest of his health and family at this point in his life and we respect his decision. I can’t tell you how much I’ll miss him. He put Air Force lacrosse on the map, and for that he’ll always have our respect.”

Prior to his arrival at the Academy, Acee, a 1963 graduate of Cortland State, spent 30 years as the lacrosse coach at SUNY-Farmingdale, leading the Rams to three NJCAA championships and 25 Final Fours. Acee was also named the NJCAA Coach of the Year on four occasions (1977, 1981, 1987 and 1997).

Over the past four-plus decades, Acee has racked up numerous accolades, including inductions into the Long Island Metropolitan Hall of Fame and the Junior College Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He served as the defensive coach for the U.S. lacrosse team which won a world championship in 1994 and was also the head coach for the South team at the North/South All-Star Game in 2002. Acee was honored as the Howdy Myers Man of the Year by the USILA in 2001, and in 2007, he was recipient of both the USILA’s Frenchy Julien Service Award and the IMLCA Creators Award.

Seremet has been an assistant coach at the Academy for the past seven seasons, working primarily with the offense. His career has also included stints at Dartmouth (1993), Stony Brook (1997-2000) and Cornell (2001).

A 1992 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Seremet was a four-year lacrosse letterwinner for the Tar Heels. He was a starter on the 1991 national championship team and a member of four ACC championship teams (1989-92). In addition, Seremet has several years of professional experience, as an eight-year member of the National Lacrosse League. Seremet began his pro career in 1993 with the Boston Blazers and has also played for the New York Saints, Syracuse Smash and Colorado Mammoth.
