Denver Bandits / Panthers Steal Show in Baltimore

What started out as a fun way of enabling a group of talented U-15 players to play in one last tournament before heading off to various high schools, turned out to be a wake up call to east coast elite teams that kids in Colorado can play lacrosse at the highest level with any of their players. The Denver Bandits name is now on the website for the Summer Sizzle tournament as the U15 A champions for 2008.

This tournament is a yearly tournament in Baltimore for elite middle school and high school players. It has both A and B divisions and has been dominated in past years by teams from Baltimore, Connecticut, Virginia, Long Island, and North Carolina. To put the level of competition on a more familiar note, the Green Turtle (a Maryland elite player team who typically do exceptionally well at the Vail Shootout), chose to play in the B division of this year’s summer sizzle tournament.

Despite playing against many of the best teams the east coast had to offer, this year a team of motivated U15 players from Denver showcased their talent in the tournament by winning all seven of their games to capture the U15A division. All of the Denver players played in the 8th grade Red Division this past season for either the Denver Bandits or Panthers . All of them had played together on various select teams in the past and collectively played under the team name of Denver Bandits Select (Da Oysters). They were fortunate to have Rick Parietti, Tom Florence, Mark Williams, and Jon Barocas volunteer to assist with coaching, and to have various parents give a great deal of time and effort to coordinate the trip both in the months leading up to the trip and then while in Baltimore.

Congratulations to all of the boys on their accomplishment and thanks to all of the parents and coaches for their time and effort.

Colorado lacrosse looks to be on the rise with a very bright future ahead!

GO PIONEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Classroom: Ain’t No Thing - Zac Jungers’ ‘chicken wing’ might be the last legal hold in lacrosse

Who ever said Bill Tierney’s boys couldn’t get creative? Princeton University is, after all, an Ivy League institution known for its ingenuity.

But Denver Outlaws defenseman Zac Jungers is quick to clarify that the “chicken wing,” which he calls the last, true legal hold, evolved more as a matter of brute force than creativity.
