Drew Westervelt had a hat trick in the second half as the Denver Outlaws earned a Major League Lacrosse road win, 11-8 over the Washington Bayhawks, and clinched a playoff spot Saturday.
The Outlaws trailed the Bayhawks 3-1 after a defensive first half, then 5-1 after Washington scored the first two goals of the third quarter. Recent No. 1 pick Max Seibald got Denver’s offense going with an unassisted, short-handed goal, and Matt Brown, Westervelt, Brendan Mundorf and Brian Christopher followed with third-period goals.
The Outlaws shut out Washington 5-0 in the fourth quarter, getting two goals each by Westervelt and Jeff Sonke.
