The Denver Outlaws (2-1) beat the Washington Bayhawks (1-2) at home by a score of 20-16. The Outlaws had a rough first half and were outscored in both. They picked up the pace in the third and never looked back, holding the Bayhawks to only four goals in the second half. A trio of Outlaws produced the bulk of the offense, with Brendan Mundorf (UMBC), Drew Westervelt (UMBC), and Matt Brown (Denver) all scoring hat-tricks. Fresh off the NCAA Lacrosse Championship game, Newcomers Dan Hardy (Syracuse) and Max Siebald (Cornell) both made a huge impact in their first professional game, combining for five points and five ground balls.

The Bayhawks started the game with an early goal (2:07) from Billy Glading (Virginia). Kyle Dixon (Virginia) tallied two goals from beyond the two-point arc to give the Bayhawks a big early 6-3 lead. The scoring then went back and forth with the Bayhawks leading at the end of the first by a tally of 7-4. Hardy scored his first professional goal at (6:29) of the first to go along with three assists in the contest.

In the second quarter, the scoring was once again opened up by Washington at (1:03) from Spencer Ford (Towson). Siebald scored his first professional goal and his first two-point goal (2:50) in the second. Siebald also tallied four groundballs for the Outlaws in the game. On a sad note, Kyle Harrison (Johns Hopkins) left late in the second with a hamstring injury and did not return.

The third started off with a Washington goal from Gladling at (0:58). After that goal, the Outlaws came back into the game with a purpose. They scored three unanswered goals from Mundorf, Westervelt, and Nate Watkins (Maryland). The home team held Washington to only two goals in the quarter and ended with a 15-14 lead.

The fourth quarter Outlaws scoring fest started at (0:28) with a two-point goal from Brian Langtry (Hofstra). They then scored three more goals and held Washington to another two goals. Goalie Jessie Schwartzman (Johns Hopkins) came up big for Denver tonight making 13 saves off of 27 shots.

Next, the Outlaws will travel to Chicago for a re-match to avenge week one’s 11-13 loss. The game will take place at Toyota Park on Sunday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. (MT).
