The Colorado Mammoth selected forward Matt Danowski from Duke on Sunday with the seventh pick of the first round of the National Lacrosse League entry draft.
Danowski was the 2007 and 2008 U.S. collegiate national player of the year and a four-time All-American.
“Obviously, he’s an accomplished scorer already in the outdoor game, and we think he can become a major offensive force in the NLL,” said Mammoth general manager Steve Govett, who traded two second- round picks in the draft to the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for the seventh overall pick.
The Mammoth made three other picks Sunday: Duke’s Mike Ward in the third round and Ryan McFadyen in the sixth, and Terry Kiminer of Maryland-Baltimore County in the fourth round.
The Mammoth also reacquired all-star defenseman John Gallant, who had been selected by Boston in the expansion draft in July. The Blazers sent Gallant to Colorado in exchange for transition Jason Bloom and a fifth-round draft pick.
