Pueblo’s Summer 7 V 7 Tourney a big hit!

PUEBLO-The Summer of 7’s Boy’s lacrosse tournament was a big hit with all who played in it. Tournament organizers are now planning a Summer of 7’s 2009 event (July 18). With the growth of the event, “we would like to add a girls division, add big prizes and giveaways, plus expand with more teams at the youth level” noted Coach Larry Fortier co-founder of the tourney.
Alex Vigil of Native Lacrosse said “put us down we’ll be back next year for sure!”
Fortier an east coast native said “where I grew up tourney’s like this happen every weekend!”.
The 7 V 7 format was OK with the players/fans & coaches as well, one parent noted “we only had 11 kids, we would have cancelled if this was full field regulation lacrosse” she went on, “just because we don’t have enough kids who play in the summer, but for the ones who love lacrosse this worked out great”.
A web-site will be built for the Tournament at www.lacrosseofpueblo.org or for more on the next year event email info@lacrosseofpueblo.org

Bandit Select Win U-15 A Division Summer Sizzle

24 Boys, 3 Coaches, the General Manager and the Ladies of Baltimore, went out to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the Summer Sizzle U-15 tournament this past weekend.  The team was comprised of Bandits and Panthers from the Red division and competed in the A Division of the tournnament. Although they heard they would get killed playing against select teams from Baltimore, Long Island, Virginia, Washington DC and North Carolina, it was felt by parents and coaches that this incoming freshman class had the talent to compete.

So how did they do?

Well they went undefeated, closest game they had was a four goal win.  They beat the ROCK (Maryland Select) 9-4, Bathawks Black 8-3, CAYLC (Virginia) 8-1, The Rage (Long Island Express) 7-1, Old North State 9-0.  In the semi-finals they played the vaunted Baltimore Crabs, the Bandits won 6-2 to advance to the finals against Trilogy, where they promptly dispatched the final obstacle 5-1 to win the championship.

This was a special group of kids that went into the heart of Lacrosse country and not only proved that Colorado kids can compete, but at least this year were better.

The team consisted of the following players and the High Schools they will attend in the fall.

Denver Women’s Lacrosse Announces Recruiting Class

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team welcomes 11 freshmen in its latest recruiting class, head coach Liza Kelly announced today. The class of 2012 consists of Lauren Ciccomascolo, Laura Connors, Kaiti Delaney, Ashley Harman, Kelsey Hughes, Morgan Johnson, Kathryn Keppler, Rachel Lenchner, Melissa Maier, Kara Secora, and Becca Steinberg.

“We have been looking forward to the fall of 2008 ever since these players committed,” DU head coach Liza Kelly said. “They are an extremely well-rounded group of young ladies that excel both in the classroom and on the lacrosse field. They will help Denver reach new heights during their four years.”

Ciccomascolo comes to the University of Denver from Orange County, Calif., where she recently was named the 2008 most valuable player of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Championship, as well as an Orange County Register athlete of the week. In 2007, Ciccomascolo was named first-team All-American and all-county at midfield, while also earning CIF player of the year. She was also first-team all-league and SWC MVP in 2006.
