LAFAYETTE — Why now?
It’s a question that raced through Robert Ogez’s mind on numerous occasions at the beginning of his senior season with the Alexander Dawson lacrosse team.
But injuries are nothing new for Ogez. During his sophomore lacrosse season, he suffered two concussions. The 18-year-old midfielder came into 2008 nursing a separated shoulder he suffered while snowboarding over the winter.
So he had two choices. Play timid or play with a reckless abandon. Judging by the fact that he ended the season as the Mustangs’ leading scorer, with 31 goals and 14 assists, it’s clear which path he took. And that grit and determination is in part why Ogez has been named the Times-Call Lacrosse Player of the Year.
