Experienced coaches help Dawson lacrosse players come together in drive for success

LAFAYETTE — Robert Ogez and his family moved to Colorado three years ago from Southern California. When considering where to move, they agreed it would be a place where he could play lacrosse in hopes of one day playing in college.

When he arrived in Colorado, however, Ogez ended up attending Niwot High, a school with no lacrosse program. But thanks to Colorado High School Activities Association rules, Ogez was allowed to explore his options at different schools. He narrowed his choices to Fairview and Alexander Dawson.

Mustangs snap seven-game losing streak

LAFAYETTE — The Alexander Dawson lacrosse team’s captains approached their teammates to award the game ball on Monday, and a grin of relief came across Robert Ogez’s face.

“It’s been awhile since we’ve gotten to do this,” Ogez told his fellow Mustangs.

It had been 37 days to be exact.

But the Mustangs came through in a big way with a 9-6 victory over cross-county rival Boulder to snap a seven-game losing streak.

The Mustangs dominated possession for most of the game and held on to the lead when they had to in improving to 3-7 on the year.

US Lacrosse Announces Background Check Recommendation

US Lacrosse strongly recommends that youth lacrosse programs establish a criminal history background check program for all coaches and volunteers who interact with youth players.

While there are a number of organizations that provide criminal history background check services, US Lacrosse has established a strategic alliance with the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) to provide assistance to the national lacrosse community in this regard. NCSI (www.ncsisafe.com) has received the endorsement of the National Council of Youth Sports and provides services to the United States Olympic Committee, the national governing bodies of many other sports, and hundreds of youth programs throughout the country. NCSI also conducts criminal history background checks for a number of national programs managed by US Lacrosse including the exclusive US Lacrosse Coaching Certification Program.

As a result of its strategic alliance with US Lacrosse, NCSI provides US Lacrosse-affiliated organizations with a special discount for its comprehensive service. Please read the attached document for full details on this alliance and benefit to you.

Aspen Brings an East Coast Sport to the Rocky Mountains

There is lacrosse, and then there is Aspen lacrosse.

The first, for many years, was reserved for the plush playing fields of the Northeast — Long Island, Baltimore, Boston, Connecticut — where prep school kids from Choate, Andover, Deerfield and other boarding schools took part in this elite spring pastime. There the weather is temperate in spring and fall; the game is established; and top players could continue playing in the Ivy or Patriot leagues in college.
