Under the Helmet with Erik Johnson
School: Fort Lewis College
Position: Attack
High School: Glenbrook South (Illinois)
Year: Junior
Major: Business
CollegeLAX: When/where did you first start playing lacrosse?
Erik Johnson (EJ): I started playing in 6th grade in Winnetka, Illinois (a suburb on the north side of Chicago).
CollegeLAX: How exactly does someone from the Northside of Chicago end up going to school in Durango, Colorado?
EJ: Ever since I was a freshman in high school I knew I wanted to go to school out in Colorado and be in the mountains. I applied really late to CSU and wound up getting rejected so I found Fort Lewis. I was originally planning on transferring, but I couldn’t leave Durango once I got here.
CollegeLAX: Who is/was your biggest lacrosse influence and why?
EJ: Probably Connor Gill while he was playing at Virginia. I used to love watching him in the final four and I got to see him play in person a couple times. He’s probably the best feeder that I’ve ever seen. I always try to look for my teammates and make that one extra pass for a better shot.
