Game Overview

Denver enters the weekend with a 7-4 overall record and 1-0 in the GWLL after dropping No. 7 Notre Dame, 9-8, on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. Sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) recorded the game winner with 40 seconds remaining and freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) had his third consecutive multi-goal game with three. The Bobcats are riding a two-game losing streak after falling 14-10 to Sacred Heart on April 2. Garret Kerr leads Quinnipiac with 15 goals on the year.

The Series vs. the Bobcats

This is the fourth meeting the two teams with Denver having won the last three meetings including a 10-9 victory at Quinnipiac last spring.

Game Overview

Bellarmine will play Air Force on Friday evening prior to the match-up with the Pioneers. BU has lost three straight games going into the weekend, including a 20-4 loss to Ohio State on April 2.

The Series vs. the Knights

The Pioneers have won the previous two meetings between the two teams, including a 9-7 win in Louisville last spring.

Streakin’ at the Right Time

DU is riding a four-game winning streak going, its longest of the season and best since a seven-game winning streak in the 2006 season. The Pioneers’ season-high win streak a season ago was two games.

GWLL Time

The Pioneers are 5-5 in GWLL home openers going into the opening, and closing weekend of GWLL play in Barton Stadium. Denver is 6-4 in GWLL season enders and 13-11 in the final game of the season at home.

The Bigger They Are

The Pioneers defeated their first top-10 team since a 9-7 win over No. 1 Virginia on Feb. 29, 2004. DU dropped Notre Dame, 9-8, last Saturday. The Pioneers are 2-12 against top-10 teams.

Cardiac Kids

For the third time this season Denver rallied to win a game, after trailing 6-1 to Notre Dame and winning 9-8. DU never led in the games against ND, Penn or Stony Brook until the final goal of the game.

Freshman on Top

Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) recorded four points on three goals and one assists in DU’s win over ND last Saturday. Lincoln leads the team with 26 goals. Lincoln has nine multi-goal games on the season, including two games with four goals on Feb. 16 vs. Colgate and March 29 vs. Harvard. Lincoln was named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week for his efforts agianst Notre Dame.

Game Winners

The Pioneers have gotten game-winning performances from five different players this season. Sophomores Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) and Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) lead the way with two on the season.

The Assist Goes to

Charley Dickenson is the team leader with 11 assists on the season, part of the 15 points on the year. Dickenson had six assists in all of 2007.

Helping Hands

Denver has received assists from 21 players this season, including a team-high 11 from Charley Dickenson.

Overtime Thrillers

DU is 2-0 in overtime games this season after the 10-9 win over Harvard on March 29. Junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) recorded the game-winner at 1:03 remaining in the overtime period. Senior Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored the game-winner against Penn on March 9.

Movin’ Up

Lincoln has 26 goals on the season, the second highest goal total by a freshman in Denver history. Lincoln surpassed sophomore Ilija Gajic’s (Burnaby, B.C.) total of 24 in the ND win. Next up for Lincoln is current assistant coach Matt Brown’s 32 goals in his rookie campaign in 2002.

Munro Honored

Head Coach Jamie Munro, who is in his 10th year at the helm of the Pioneers was named the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week for the week ending April 6.

Honoring the Seniors

Against Bellarmine on Sunday the Pioneers will honor their five seniors for their dedication to the program. Andrew Bourke (Denver, Colo.), Carlos Navarro (Dallas, Texas), Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.), Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) and Dustin Palmer (Denver, Colo.) will all be honored.

Ranked Opponents

Denver is 2-3 against ranked opponents this season, defeating then-No. 16 Colgate and then-No. 7 Notre Dame and losing to then-No. 9 North Carolina, then-No. 20 Towson and then-No. 7 Cornell.
