Dramatic goal lifts Summit over Aspen

ASPEN — A certain rout rapidly turned into a nail biter.

The Aspen lacrosse team mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter Saturday against visiting Summit, scoring four goals in a five-plus minute span to tie the game at eight. The Skiers could not, however, contain Tigers Sam Dudick and Braxton Campbell.

The duo, who combined for seven goals and five assists, hooked up one final time with 10 seconds remaining. Campbell passed to Dudick for a dramatic game winner, and Summit prevailed, 9-8.

David Zabronsky’s hope is that youngsters in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades will watch a Grand Valley Lacrosse Club game at Canyon View Park and decide that’s the sport they want to play in the spring.

The club, in its third year, has some high aspirations.

“The Grand Valley is a great place for (lacrosse) with the weather and the athleticism,” Zabronsky said.

His hope is the club, which draws players from the entire Grand Valley, can become a team sanctioned by the Colorado High School Activities Association by next spring.
