The Durango Lacrosse Club team won three of four games last weekend at a tournament in Rio Rancho, N.M.

The 3-1 weekend came after a 4-0 start the previous week as the local high school-age lacrosse team improved to 7-1 on the season.

In last weekend’s opener, Durango dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Anderson High School from Austin, Texas.

The Durango team was able to bounce back and win the next three games with decisive victories. The defense, captained by senior Chuck Shultz, was able to engineer a shutout against Rio Rancho and held Winslow, Ariz., to only three goals.

The offense outscored the opposition by a ratio of 3-to-1 in the three victories.

“This was a great beginning to the season, and we hope to see the team continue to build on their success,” said head coach Jed Gilden.

“Although we are 7-1 on the season, we still have improvements that can be made, but the team is really coming together.”

The Durango Lacrosse team has two weeks to prepare before traveling to Grand Junction to face Grand Valley and Battle Mountain.
