“It’s the first time a Colorado team beat a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association team,” Fort Collins coach Carey Smith said. “They’re the top lacrosse league in the nation, so it’s a pretty big deal.”
Senior attacker Henry Miketa led the Vipers with three goals and one assist. Tyler Whitcomb and Brock Waddell added two goals apiece, with Whitcomb scoring his second goal with 7:41 to play after the Crusaders (4-2) had closed to 6-4.
Devin Arruabarrena also scored for Fort Collins, and Jackson Nye came up with 15 saves in goal.
Smith said the Vipers will continue their eastern road trip today with a scrimmage, then take on Pennsylvania state champion Downingtown East on Thursday.
