Grand Junction, CO- The #4 ranked BYU men’s lacrosse team defeated division III rival Colorado College Tigers 11-9 Friday night at Canyon Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. The win marks the third straight victory for the Cougars over Tigers.

The Cougars got out to slow start, allowing the Tigers to score the first three goals of the game. The Tigers dominated possession time in the first quarter and kept constant pressure on the BYU defense. Senior goalie Christian Kikumoto (Cherry Creek, CO), who ended the day with 13 saves, made several spectacular saves to limit the Tigers to three goals.

DENVER – Junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) scored the game-winner and freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) recorded four goals as the No. 20 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team defeated Harvard 10-9 in overtime at Barton Lacrosse Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Denver (6-4) was led by Lincoln’s four goal effort. Smith had two goals while sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) and senior Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.) each recorded one goal and two assists.

Harvard (4-4) received four goals from Zach Widbin while Jason Duboe had two.

“It was a great, hard-fought battle,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “Harvard is a class program, and I’m proud of our guys for hanging in there. We have the momentum going into conference play this weekend.”

Senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) got the Pioneers on the board first as freshman Jamie MacDonald (Providence, R.I.) fed Paulson on the break.

Late in the first, Gajic gave the Pioneers the 2-0 advantage with a goal at 4:09, but Nick Smith answered for Harvard 10 seconds later.

Harvard even the score at 2-2 as Duboe scored on the man-up advantage with just 1:47 remaining in the first period.

Lincoln registered his 20th goal of the season and gave Denver a 3-2 lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Koll assisted on the goal.

However, Harvard evened the score 1:44 later when Duboe again found the back of the net.

The Crimson took its first lead of the game at 4-3 with 8:08 to play in the half on a Widbin goal. Harvard then received goals from Tony Burr and Widbin to head into the intermission leading the Pioneers 6-3.

Koll and Lincoln scored back-to-back unassisted goals for the Pioneers in the first two minutes of the half, but Widbin scored his third goal of the game for the Crimson with 9:01 to play in the third and extended Harvard’s lead back to two at 7-5.

Freshman Emerson Eichler brought DU within one at 7-6 with less than two minutes to play in the third quarter. Gajic assisted on the goal, but Widbin scored for Harvard with just 12 seconds remaining.

Lincoln scored his third goal of the game on an assist from Paulson midway through the fourth quarter to again bring Denver within one. The freshman scored his fourth goal of the day to tie the game at 8-8 less than two minutes later off an assist from Gajic.

Harvard took the 9-8 lead with 4:50 remaining on a Max Motschwiller goal, but Smith tied the game with 1:06 to play.

After the Crimson kept possession for the first two minutes of the overtime stanza, the Pioneers used Smith’s second goal of the game to win after 2:57 of extra time. Sophomore Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) assisted on the goal.

“I’ve been struggling as of late,” Smith said. “It was nice to get the monkey off my back. This was a huge win for us going into conference play.”

With his four goals today, Lincoln moved into third among DU’s top freshman goal scorers. Current assistant coach Matt Brown scored 32 in his rookie campaign, and Gajic netted 24 goals last year as a freshman. Lincoln now has 23 goals this season.

Junior Austin Konkel (Aurora, Colo.) made nine saves for the Pioneers while Harvard goaltender Joe Pike had 17. Denver outshot Harvard 41-33 in the game.

Fort Collins, CO – Two days after defeating #5 Oregon 8-4 in an emotional contest on Tuesday, the #3 Colorado State Rams took on visiting #13 Cal Poly on Thursday afternoon, beating the Mustangs by an identical 8-4 margin on a cool and crisp afternoon at Colorado State University. The Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through two quarters and proceeded to cruise the rest of the way, though not without their share of struggles and a good showing by Cal Poly. In the end, CSU’s strong defensive effort propelled them to their eighth victory on the season.

Much like the Oregon game on Tuesday, CSU scored in the first minute of the game to give them a lead they would never relinquish. The defense kept Cal Poly off of the scoreboard for the first 27:31 of the game before Poly’s Matt Anderson scored the first of his 2 goals later in the second quarter. By that time, the Rams had slowly marched out to their 6-0 lead. Much of the rest of the game was relatively sloppy on both ends, but Poly simply could not generate enough offense to seriously contend on the afternoon.

The Rams were led by freshman Cooper Kehoe (Robert Louis Stevenson HS; CA), whose 3 goals and 1 assist led all scorers. Sophomore Andrew Stein (Columbine HS; CO) shut down Cal Poly’s All-American attackman Seth Kweller, holding the talented scorer to just 1 assist on the day. Stein continues to impress as the leading cover man for the Rams.

Cal Poly won the face-off battle, taking 8/14 draw attempts on the day, but the Rams won in every other statistical category, including a 45-31 edge in groundballs. Each team had over 20 turnovers. Anderson’s 2 goals led the Mustangs, who also got 1 goal and 1 assist from Andrew Haviland. Senior Ben Wallace (Thomas Jefferson HS; CO) added 2 goals for the Rams.

Colorado State (8-2) faces its first league test of the season on Saturday as the Utah Utes come to town for an RMLC tilt. Utah beat CSU 4-3 in 2003 in their only win in series history and have proven to be a worthy opponent in the challenging RMLC. Cal Poly (6-5) heads back to California to complete WCLL play before their postseason starts in late April.

Game Overview
A trio of Pioneers recorded hat tricks as DU topped the Blue Hose of Presbyterian 19-5 on Monday evening. Freshman Ryan Fanning (Dallas, Texas) led the way for DU with four goals and two assists, while senior Andrew Bourke (Denver, Colo.) and freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) added three goals each. Junior Brad Richardson (Langley, B.C.) added four points on three assists and a goal as well. Sophomore goalie Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.) recorded his first win between the pipes, with four saves and one goal allowed.

Harvard is coming off a 10-3 loss to No. 3 Duke on Wednesday night. Jason Duboe, Nick Sapia and Jess Fehr recorded goals for the Crimson, while Joe Pike recorded 14 saves and allowed 10 goals in the loss. Duboe is Harvard’s leading scorer with 14 goals and 17 total points. Pike is allowing 6.24 goals per game and has a save percentage of 58.7 percent.

The Series vs. the Crimson
This is the fourth meeting between the Pioneers and Crimson, with Harvard holding the 2-1 advantage. The series started in 2004, when Denver earned its lone win. Harvard has won the last two meetings including a 6-4 win in Denver on March 31, 2007. Sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) and senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) recorded two goals apiece in the loss.

Offensive Onslaught
DU has scored 33 goals in the last two games and a total of 50 points. Denver has gotten offensive contributions from 18 different players, led by freshmen Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario), who has five goals, and Ryan Fanning (Dallas, Texas) with four goals and junior Brad Richardson (Surrey, B.C.) with four assists.

Getting on the Stat Sheet
Freshman Ryan Fanning (Dallas, Texas) played in two games before getting his name on the stat sheet, but he did it in style. Fanning recorded four goals in DU’s 19-5 win over Presbyterian on Monday, including three in the third quarter alone. Fanning also added his first two assists of the year in the contest.

Just Keeps Gettin’ It Done
Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) has 19 goals on the season and has recorded at least two goals in seven of DU’s nine games. Lincoln is in view of the top-three freshman goal scorers at DU. Current assistant coach Matt Brown (2002-05) scored 32 in his rookie campaign, sophomore Ilija Gajic (2007-present) scored 24 in his first year and Mike Kenlay (2000-03) had 20.

First Timers
Junior Cory Schaeffler (Carmel, Calif.) and sophomore Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.) recorded their firsts of their careers in DU’s win over the Blue Hose. Schaeffler recorded his first goal and assist as a Pioneer while Tyrie earned his first win in front of the net.

Getting it Done Alone
The Pioneers have recorded 44 unassisted goals this season through nine games. In 2007, DU had 49 unassisted goals in 16 games.

Getting Better with Age
Sophomore Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) has surpassed his freshman year totals in both assists and points and is currently tied with his first year total of four goals. Dickenson has 10 assists and 13 points through nine games this season, while having six assists and 10 points a year ago.

Man on a Mission
Senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) has recorded 16 multi-goal games since coming to DU in 2006. Paulson has played in 35 games as a Pioneer and has recorded three hat trick games.

Ranked Opponents
Denver is 1-3 against ranked opponents this season, defeating then No. 16 Colgate and losing to then No. 9 North Carolina, then No. 20 Towson and No. 7 Cornell.

Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Nominee
Senior attackman Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.) is a candidate for the men’s lacrosse division of the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Koll is among 20 collegiate lacrosse players who have combined excellence in athletics, academics and community service. From the current list of 20 nominees, a national media committee will select 10 finalists in late March 2008. Those ten names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote that will include coaches, media and fans. The award winner will be announced and recognized at the 2008 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships in Foxboro, Mass.

USAFA, Colo. - With a solid effort on both sides of the field, the Air Force lacrosse team handed Presbyterian College a 12-4 loss Tuesday afternoon at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium. The Falcons, undefeated at home, move to 2-4 on the season, while the Blue Hose end the year at 0-11.
Air Force, which outshot Presbyterian 15-0 in the opening period and 49-18 for the game, opened the scoring with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter as senior Chris Tubesing (Centreville, Va.) notched his first goal of the season with an assist from Ridge Flick (So., Plano, Texas). The Falcons made it 2-0 with 12 seconds on the clock, as David Rose (Sr., Allentown, Pa.) scored off the assist from long-stick midfielder Dan Gnazzo (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.).
Tubesing scored another goal early in the second period, this time on an assist from junior Griffin Nevitt (Charlotte, N.C.), while Nevitt gave Air Force a 4-0 advantage with 8:29 left in the opening half. The Blue Hose got on the board with a pair of goals just 35 seconds apart before the Falcons closed out the period with a three-goal spurt. K.J. Landgraf (Jr., Cordova, Md.) scored a man-up goal off an assist from Rose to start the run, while he assisted Kevin Crumrine (Sr., Edgewater, Md.) on another man-up score. The final goal of the period came from Landgraf on an assist from Crumrine.
Senior Jack Parchman (Baltimore, Md.) got on the board to open the third period to give Air Force an 8-2 lead, but Presbyterian responded with a goal just 16 seconds later. The Falcons again rattled off three straight scores, including the first career goal from freshman defender Bryan Gilbreath (Bainbridge Island, Wash.). Rose scored on an assist from Tubesing, while Colin Lockhart (Jr., Richmond, Va.) took a feed from Brian Massa (Jr., Jamesville, N.Y.) to give Air Force an eight-point lead. The Blue Hose stopped the run with another score, but Gilbreath answered with his second score of the day, this time on a man-down goal.
Although Presbyterian outshot Air Force 10-6 in the final period, neither team was able to get on the board again, with the Falcons securing the 12-4 victory. The Falcons went 2-for-2 on their extra-man opportunities, while the Blue Hose converted just 1-of-5 on the power play.
Tubesing, Rose and Landgraf all had two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons’ offense. Meanwhile, Sean Mulford led the Blue Hose with two goals in the contest.
Air Force is back in action next weekend, April 6, when it visits Ohio State for its first conference game of the season. The contest is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
