Colorado State and Colorado ranked 2 and 3 in USL-WDIA Top 25 Poll

USL-WDIA Top 25 Poll for February 20

February 20, 2008 — The first poll for the US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA) was announced today. Undefeated UC Santa Barbara, the pollsters’ unanimous choice for the top spot, already sports a 7-0 record. All victories have come over teams ranked in the top 25, among them No. 2 Colorado State (4-1), which fell to the Gauchos 12-10 in overtime, No. 3 Colorado (5-1), and No. 4 Michigan (5-1). Santa Clara (5-1) was ranked in the 5th position, its only loss a one-goal affair to Colorado State.

Perennial powerhouse and seven-time defending national champion Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (3-3) sits in the 6th spot, with an up-and-coming Lindenwood (2-2) program next. The Lions dropped a one-goal game to Cal Poly at the recent UCSB Shootout. Rounding out the top 10 are Michigan (4-0), UCLA (4-3), and Georgia (3-0).

Nine of the top 25 teams are from California, where the WWLL swings into action early in the season, but teams from 12 others states are represented in the poll, with another five among those receiving votes. About 200 teams now complete in the WDIA, which will host its national championship event in Denver in early May.
