Winners crowned at California girls lacrosse tournament
California’s Triple Threat takes Varsity crown while Colorado’s Team 180 captures Middle School & JV titles at inaugural Sand Storm @ Palm Springs tournament
High level competition, a scenic venue and glorious weather helped make the inaugural Sand Storm tournament, held January 12-13, 2008, a rousing success. Set against a backdrop of palm trees and snow capped mountains, 22 teams fielding over 400 athletes from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and the UK competed on the lush grounds of the Empire Polo Club.
Triple Threat, a San Francisco Bay area program directed by Dearborn Davis and Noemi Hites, captured the Varsity championship while Team 180, a Denver-based program directed by Sam Bartron, clinched both the Middle School and JV divisions.
“Team 180 was thrilled to participate in such a well run and up-beat event,” said Bartron, owner of Colorado’s leading club lacrosse program for girls. “We were particularly happy to walk away with 2 divisional wins as well as runner up in the varsity pool, which I think highlights the fact that Colorado lacrosse is gaining momentum and emerging as a leading force in the western states.”
