Men’s Lacrosse Drops Albany in Exhibition
Freshmen Lincoln scores five goals
DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse wrapped up its fall season with a 12-9 win over 2007 NCAA quarterfinalist Albany in an exhibition game Saturday night at Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) led the way for all scorers with five goals.
“It was great to have such a high-quality opponent like Albany to play tonight,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “For five weeks we have beat each other up and it was nice to mix it up with a team like the Great Danes.”
The two teams matched each other in the first quarter with four goals apiece, with four different Pioneers scoring including Lincoln and 2008 co-captain junior Joey Murray (Denver).
Lincoln scored both of Denver’s goals in the second quarter to give DU the 6-5 lead at half.
DU increased its lead on the Great Danes in the opening seconds of the third quarter as junior transfer Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) recorded his second goal of the game.
Albany recorded two unanswered goals but sophomore John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) gave DU back the lead, 9-8. Sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) recorded his second goal of the game to put Denver up 10-8. Albany would record its last goal of the game at 3:48 in the fourth. Lincoln recorded his fourth and fifth goals of the game to close out the game and extending the Pioneers’ lead.
Junior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) added a goal to the Pioneers’ total. Senior co-captain Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the team with three assists. Gajic added two assist and Murray and Smith had one apiece.
Corey Small led Albany with four goals and Derek Kreuzer had two assists for the Great Danes.
The Pioneers kick of their 2008 season against Feb. 16 against Colgate.
