Pioneers Host Albany in Fall Game - DU Volleyball to play NCAA tournament team in fall season

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will play 2007 NCAA tournament quarterfinalist Albany on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. to wrap-up its 2007 fall season.

“Playing Albany this fall is going to be a great opportunity to see where we are,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “Albany was a NCAA Quarterfinalist last year and ranked in the top-10 in the nation. They play an exciting brand of lacrosse and I look forward to seeing how our team competes.”

DU, who finished 9-7 in 2007, returns 16 players and welcomes 21 newcomers, including five transfers. The Pioneers finished third in the Great Western Lacrosse League.

Albany finished 2007 with a 15-3 record and lost to Cornell in overtime in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Colorado College Names Martin, Nogic Assistant Coaches

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Peter Martin, a former standout at Drew University, and Dominic Nogic, one of the top goaltenders ever at the United States Military Academy, have been named assistant coaches for the Colorado College men’s lacrosse team.

“I’m excited to announce Peter Martin and Dom Nogic as assistant coaches for the Tigers,” CC head coach David Zazzaro said. “Both of them will make enormous contributions to the development, growth and success of our players and program. They both have a special blend of experiences, contacts, and expertise which will make an immeasurable impact.”

Martin will serve as team’s defensive coordinator, while Dom will serve as a volunteer goalie coach.

Martin, a four-year starter as a defenseman and long-stick midfielder, was a four-year starter and two-time captain for the Rangers. Martin played two seasons with the Tri-State Men’s Lacrosse Club in the American Lacrosse League and most recently played and coached for the Wannero Chiefs in Perth, Western Australia, and helped lead his team to the league championship.

He graduated from Drew in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and earned his master’s in education-social studies from The College of New Jersey. He earned all-academic honors from the Middle Atlantic Conference and was the Rangers’ MVP.

Nogic was a three-year starter for the Cadets and finished his career ranked fourth all-time in saves. He graduated from the academy in with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll four times (1999-2002).

Nogic is a captain in the United States Army and is stationed at Fort Carson, Colo.

Colorado College will open the 2008 season by playing host to Washington & Lee University on March 1 at Washburn Field.
