Outlaws Look to Stay Hot - Denver Welcomes L.A. Riptide on Saturday
Denver–August 1, 2007 – The Denver Outlaws return to INVESCO Field at Mile High on Saturday, August 4 at 1 p.m. to take on the divisional rival Los Angeles Riptide.
The Riptide enter this weekend with an 8-2 record, placing them atop the Western Conference standings. Already having clinched a playoff birth, L.A. will be looking to lock down the division crown.
The Outlaws, riding a two game winning streak, come in with a 6-4 record and hope to clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Riptide.
Last weekend, L.A. took down the San Francisco Dragons at home by a final score of 20-11. In that game, the Riptide were led by Bud Light MVP Seal Lindsay, who tallied 5 goals and 1 assist in the victory.
Also last Saturday, the Outlaws picked up a crucial road victory against the Long Island Lizards by a final score of 14-12. Denver won that game on an overtime goal by midfielder Jeff Sonke. It was the first time in league history that an overtime game ended with a two-point goal.
L.A. boasts a lineup that includes attackman Spencer Ford, whose 41 assists make him the top assist man in the MLL, and goalie Mickey Jarboe, whose 10.97 goals against average makes him the league’s top netminder.
The Outlaws look to counter the Riptide punch behind star attackman Brendan Mundorf. Mundorf currently has the 2nd most goals in the MLL with 29, and sits tied for 4th in the point’s standings with 40 points for the season.
The game will be rife with playoff implications and the INVESCO atmosphere should be electric.
