Men’s Elite
Championship
Go Fast 7, Lax Grip 6
It was lacrosse at its finest and one of the best Championships in years at the 35th annual Vail Lacrosse Shootout. It was a close game throughout with Go Fast winning their first title on their third trip to the championship game.
Jon Barocas and his team, Go Fast, were able to outlast Team Lax Grip for a one goal victory. It was the first one goal championship game since Lax World won over Under Armor 13-12 in 2000. It was a truly exciting lacrosse game in which Go Fast led almost the entire way. Michael Donegar, tournament all-star and Offensive MVP, scored four goals to help Go Fast win. Donegar was impressive, especially in the 4th quarter when he took over the game. Two of Donegar’s goals came back-to-back in the beginning of the last period to give Go Fast enough of a lead to win their first championship. Donegar was Go Fast’s go-to weapon in the 2nd half. He did a great job of leading the offense, and creating opportunities for himself against a staunch Lax Grip defense.
This championship tied for the all time lowest scoring game in Vail shootout history and was a credit to both goalies, both of whom put on memorable performances. Go Fast’s Doc Schneider and Lax Grip’s Chris Sanderson each made several outstanding saves in the final game. Sanderson tallied seventeen saves in the game while Schneider ended the game with eight saves. Even though Schneider has less than half the saves of his counterpart he made several one-on-one saves that were crucial to his team’s victory.
The tournament dark horse Lax Grip battled hard the entire game but Go Fast’s depth was too tough to over come. For Lax Grip, Andrew Wasik also had a notable performance. The attackmen from Pace University scored four of his team’s six goals and earned a place on the All-Tournament Team.
Like all games in the Vail Shootout, this one was played with a thirty second shot clock. This game was what the rule makers had in mind when they decided to institute the shot clock at the tournament. With incredibly quick pace the end to end action seemed to never stop as the first half was played in a speedy thirty-three minutes. While this game was a defensive struggle almost the entire way it will now take its place as one of the most thrilling games in tournament history.

Women’s Elite – Wednesday’s Results
8:00 AM Field 1 East West 13 Team Rammit 7
Both teams started slowly (late night)? with the score tied 5-5 at the half. East West dominated the second half outscoring Rammit for a final score of 13-7 East West.
9:05 AM Field 1 Lockton Loaded 10 Revolution 1
Lockton Loaded arrived with boom box and sticks in hand, dancing on the sidelines (still going from the night before)? Their festive mood exemplified the fun of lacrosse, a great setting and friends reuniting. Their enthusiasm carried over onto the field with a win, 10-1. Revolution played hard and had a good tournament.
10:10 AM Field 1 ReLAXers 1 Greene Turtle 13
Greene Turtles and ReLAXers decided to have fun, enjoy the game, and soak up the sun. Greene Turtles dominated and proved they were one of the two top teams in the tournament.
8:00 AM Field 2 NYAC 4 Detroit 2 (but was a forfeit)
NYAC did happen to win this game although they started this game with a loss due to having to forfeit because they had to pick up players. The Detroit players were good sports by being willing to accommodate the needs of NYAC.
9:05 AM Field 2 Lakeshore 11 Vision 9
Lakeshore showed Vision who was boss in this game. They played very aggressive defense and the goalie was on fire. Lakeshore had what it took to beat the all-seeing Vision.
10:10 AM Field 2 Tap This 13 LacrosseWear 9
LacrosseWear seemed completely worn out during this game. Although both teams seemed tired they still managed to pull off a good game.
11:15 AM Field 2 Chillax 17 Team Ohio 6
This game was extremely physical and intense the whole game. Chillax had a tight defense that shut down their offense completely. There was even an immediate red card issued for dangerous play!! All in all, this game kept the spectators interested.
12:30 PM Ford Field Outlaws 18 Gang Green 3
Championship Game
The Outlaws plundered Gang Green with a strong start. Their talents were on full display as they passed and shot their way to a 10-0 lead. To Gang Green’s credit, they stood their ground and worked hard to fight off the Outlaws. In the end, the show time talents of the Outlaws overwhelmed Gang Green.
