Dr. Tom Watts Memorial Boy’s U-19 Division

Division I Championship
Baltimore 11, Arizona 6

In the 35th annual Vail Lacrosse Shootout, the Baltimore Crabs obliterated all doubt as to who was the best team at this tournament. The Crabs made sure that it would be their names on the Dr. Tom Watts memorial trophy with an 11-6 victory that gave them their second consecutive Vail Shootout Championship.

Baltimore scored the first five goals and held Arizona scoreless until there was 1:44 left in the first quarter. With ten seconds left in the quarter Baltimore got their sixth goal of the game, recovered their momentum and never looked back. Baltimore carried their wave of energy into the second quarter and went into halftime with a 9-2 lead.

Arizona started to gain a foothold in the second half, but it was just too little to late. The goalies took center stage in the final two frames. Between the two teams there were 35 shots in the second half and only six of them found the back of the net.

The most impressive part about the Crabs was their depth. Their points came from just about every offensive player. They used two extremely talented offensive middle lines that could attack the opposition’s defense in multiple ways. Even though Arizona was able to win fifteen face-offs on the day, the Baltimore Crabs were just too deep at every position for Arizona to handle.

Saturday’s Results
3rd Place Game
Ohio 9, Colorado 8

5th Place Game

7th Place Game

Consolation Championship
Indiana 14, Midwest Elite 4
The game was evenly played for the first quarter. In the second period Indiana established control, scoring five unanswered goals. Thereafter, mid-west appeared to be playing with the heads down and never challenged the Indiana squad. Indiana’s goalie made some huge saves that energized his team and carried them on to the consolation championship.

Consolation 3rd Place Game
FLC 9, Sacramento 8
This was an exciting, evenly played game. Neither team wanted to be the only non-win team at the tournament. The game was tied at the end of every quarter even though there were several lead changes. Rice, an attackmen for FLC was dominant, scoring seven of his team’s nine goals. Sacramento could simply do nothing to stop him.
