Dr. Tom Watts Memorial Boy’s U-19 Division
The second day of the Dr. Tom Watts Memorial Tournament saw most of the top seeds distancing themselves from the field. There was only one Division I game that ended with less than a fifteen goal differential.
Arizona 11 – Delaware 6
In the most anticipated match up of the day Delaware took on a talented Arizona team that proved to be just too much to handle. In a game that was much closer than the final score of 11-6 would indicate Arizona proved that they belong in the prestigious U-19 semi-finals.
Arizona took a 6-3 lead into halftime and after an even third quarter Delaware notched the first goal of the 4th to make it a two goal game. From there, Arizona and their fantastic FOGO Teer took control of the game. Teer won 18 of 19 face-offs in the game and really helped Arizona control the tempo.
Arizona used their possessions well and managed more than 40 shots on the day. Zona’s big shooters were able to put 24 of those shots on cage and if it wasn’t for Delaware goalie Trae Humphrey, the game could have been decided early on. Humphery made 13 saves on the day and did a good job of giving his team a chance in the 4th quarter.
It should be noted that while Arizona has some true Arizona natives, it also has a good mixture of players from around the country including several from Ohio and other traditional lacrosse hotbeds. Arizona will take on Team Colorado tomorrow at 11:00 am on the Upper Avon field.
Other Results
In the other Division I games today the #1 seeds outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 64-4.
The first game of the day saw Ohio pummel the Winnipeg Wolverines 26-0. Ohio was never really challenged and cruised to at 12-0 first quarter lead. Winnipeg never quit but didn’t have an answer for the Ohio defense who has only allowed three goals so far in the tournament. Ohio will face Baltimore on the Upper Avon field at 1:00 pm tomorrow.
Team Colorado defeated Triad Lacrosse Club 19-4 with the aid of four different players each tallying 3 points. For Team Colorado Garrett Fugier, Emmett Jones, and Matt Pullara all had two goals and one assist while Steve Unkrich notched three goals.
In the final game of the day in the Division I bracket, Baltimore dominated Idaho 19-0. Baltimore owned the stat sheet but Idaho put in a spirited effort in their first appearance in Vail’s Division I.

Girls U-19 Division
Day two for the U-19 girls is over and pool play has come to an end. Starting tomorrow, three tiered bracket play begins. There has been a lot of good lacrosse and amazing talent on display the past two days. Heros is back to defend their gold division title from last year, while M&D, PA Express and Blue Sky are the favorites to take it away.
Starting tomorrow the teams will be seeded into in to three brackets: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Gold comprises the top tournament teams and will eventually crown the 2007 Champion. Over the next two days look for more competitive games and feistier play from these upper brackets.
The unusually high temperatures today definitely affected the players and officials in the tournament. If the high temps continue, a lot more water and Gatorade will be needed by all.

Grandmasters (50 +)
Thursday’s Results
Navy 9, Rockies 7
Navy won the majority of the face-offs and was able to control the tempo most of the game. Both Teams played evenly until Navy took the lead. The Rockies were unable to catch up and was mostly attributed to Navy’s awesome time-killing-ability.
Los Viejos 11, USA Stars 10
Los Viejos was dominating the entire game until the 4th when bill Pyatt scored 4 goals in a row to start their comeback. Those goals brought them to within one in the final three minutes, and even though Dennis Dobbyn made of the Stars made 17 saves it wasn’t enough to stem the tide. Los Viejos walked away with one of the hardest fought wins of all the games of the tournament today.
Friday’s Schedule
