Outlaws Bounce Back, Beat Riptide 18-15
Rookie Westervelt Leads Denver to Victory

Denver-June 9, 2007- The Denver Outlaws defeated the visiting L.A. Riptide by a final score of 18-15. The Outlaws came back strong after a crushing loss to the Chicago Machine last Saturday.

Rookie attackman Drew Westervelt, starting his first game in an Outlaws uniform, came out on fire as he scored 4 goals and added 3 assists.

The UMBC grad didn’t miss a beat in moving from the collegiate to professional ranks, as he tallied 7 points before a crowd of 8,473 at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

In what proved to be a big night for UMBC graduates, the Outlaws Brendan Mundorf scored 5 goals of his own, to go along with 3 assists. With the win, the Outlaws improve to 2-1 on the season, while San Francisco falls to 2-2.

The Riptide scored the first goal out of the gate, before the Outlaws ripped off 4 straight to gain a 4-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Behind the strong play of Sean Ford, who notched 2 goals and 6 assists, and Terry Riordan, who scored 5 goals for the game, the Riptide tied the Outlaws for the remaining three quarters and Denver’s initial 3 goal lead held up.

Next up for the Outlaws, the Rochester Rattlers (1-2) head to town on Saturday, June 16, for a Western vs. Eastern Conference battle.
