Five Former Pioneers on Outlaws Roster
Former DU men’s lacrosse players start 2007 MLL in Colorado
DENVER – Five former University of Denver men’s lacrosse players have made the opening day roster for the Colorado Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse. The Outlaws begin their season Saturday, May 19 against the San Francisco Dragons at 7 p.m. at Invesco Field.
All-Americans Geoff Snider (2002-06) and Mike Law (1998-2001) join current volunteer assistant coach and former DU player Matt Brown (2002-05), Tom Ethington (1999-2002) and Cory Vann (2001-04).
“It is an honor to have these five guys represent DU at the next level of lacrosse,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “All five of these players worked extremely hard and were a big part in the growth and success of lacrosse at the University of Denver and in the state of Colorado.”
While a Pioneer, Snider earned Third-Team USILA All-America after leading the nation and setting NCAA records in ground balls per game (11.41) and total groundballs (194). He finished second in face-off win percentage (.684). Snider was named a first Scholar All-America after earning a 3.58 GPA in finance and marketing. Snider was drafted fourth overall by the Philadelphia Wings in the National League Lacrosse last fall.
Law is etched throughout DU’s record book, finished third in goals (123), fifth in assists (51) and third in points (174). Law was DU’s first men’s lacrosse All-American.
Brown spent 2007 on the sidelines with Munro as a volunteer assistant coach working with the Pioneers’ attack. Brown tallied 113 goals, fourth on the Pioneers’ all-time list, and 137 points, the sixth-best total in Pioneers’ history. Brown earned All-Great Western Lacrosse League honors as well as being named GWLL Newcomer of the Year in 2002 after posting the most points by a freshman in DU history.
Ethington, a former DU defensive MVP, played in 51 career games for Denver, collected 78 ground balls and two assists. Ethington was just the third Pioneer at the time to be named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association STX North/South All-Star game.
Vann was named an All-America honorable mention in 2004 as well as All-GWLL first team honors in 2002 and 2004. He served as a volunteer assistant coach in 2005.
