Three Pioneers Named to All-GWLL Team
Murray, Hahn, Shepard take home postseason honors
DENVER – Three University of Denver men’s lacrosse players have been named to the All-Great Western Lacrosse League first team, it was announced today by GWLL commissioner Joe Hind.
Sophomore Joey Murray (Denver) was named to the first team at the attack position. Murray started 14 of 16 games, recording 22 goals and a team-high 21 assists to lead the Pioneers with 43 points. On the way to being named Pioneer Face-Off Classic MVP, GWLL Player of the Week and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week, Murray scored 12 points in two games the weekend of March 3-4. Murray also had a hat trick against Ohio State. Murray had two game-winning goals this season had three man-up goals. He recorded 26 ground balls and had six games with at least two goals. Murray recorded at least two assists in seven games and had a team-high .646 shots on goal percentage.
Senior David Hahn (Aurora, Colo.) and junior Rory Shepard (Riverside, Conn.) were named to the first team All-GWLL defense squad. Hahn started all 16 games, recording 1 goal and 2 assists. Hahn led the Pioneers with 60 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Prior to the 2007 season, Hahn received preseason All-American honorable mention honors and was named to Tewaaraton Watch List. In his four years at DU, Hahn had 146 ground balls. He was named to Pioneer Face-Off Classic all-tournament team.
Shepard started 15 of 16 games, recording 41 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. He had one point this season and was a preseason All-American honorable mention honoree.
DU finished the 2007 season 9-7 overall and third in the GWLL with a 3-2 record.
