Outlaws Re-Sign Brian Langtry and Lee Zink; Host Open Tryouts
Denver–April 3, 2007 –The Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse have announced the re-signing of midfielder Brian Langtry and Defenseman Lee Zink for the 2007 season. Both players are coming off of productive 2006 seasons in which they helped lead the Outlaws to the Western Conference Championship.
Langtry, a 5’10” 180 pound graduate of Hofstra University, played in 11 regular season games plus 2 playoff games the Outlaws. He scored 17 goals, made two 2-pt goals, posted 18 assists and ended the season with 37 points while scooping up 20 ground balls. He ranked fourth in the MLL among midfielders for scoring and led all others at his position in assists.
Zink, the 6’4” 195 pound defenseman from the University of Maryland, was a leader on an Outlaws defense the ranked 3rd in the MLL in goals against and scooped up 26 ground balls. He started every game in 2006 and was named the MLL Defensive Player of the Week for week 3 after shutting out 2005 co-MVP, Mark Millon in the Outlaws victory against the Baltimore Bayhawks.
“Brian and Lee are both tremendous players and will both be key factors in a successful season,” said Reese. “Brian did a phenomenal job for us on the offensive end and was a team leader in the locker room. Lee is one of the best defenseman in the sport and is only getting better. We are fortunate to have them both in Denver.”
On Sunday, April 1st, 40 players attended the first ever open tryout for the Outlaws at Peter Barton Stadium at the University of Denver. The open tryout was the first time new Outlaws head coach Jim Beardmore had coaching interaction with his new organization. “You know, it takes guts to come out here and compete. We expected to find three or four guys, and we probably liked the play of five to seven of the players. The guys worked really hard and I was happy with the amount of effort and hustle that the guys put forth.” The best players from the tryout will be invited to attend Outlaws training camp, which starts on April 28th, in hopes of eventually making the final roster.
